A novel based on two socially separated families last years in London. One family of seven five-months’ passage on the immigrant ship Bolton to Wellington 1839/40 to become pioneer settlers. Later their home next to the notorious Barretts Hotel at the time of 1848 earthquake. Then do it all over again as a founding family of Lyttelton in 1850.


The second family’s roles within young Victoria’s court: one as Prince Albert’s food taster/bootmaker, the other as nurse, and the heart-warming union of a son and only daughter of the two families.
